About the Place

Shepherd’s Knoll is a historic estate located in the small town of Wayne, Maine. God has “repurposed” this property for His work. Its primary mission today is to restore and empower God’s people to continue building His kingdom.

So far, pastors (“shepherds”) have come by themselves and with their spouses to Shepherd’s Knoll for a time of recovery, restoration, prayer, discernment and empowerment. Leadership teams have come together for strategizing, bonding and having fun together. Families have gathered to support each other in times of crisis, to retreat together, or gather for one last earthly reunion.

Shepherd’s Knoll has 8 bedrooms, including a private suite for couples and bunk rooms for teams. It is situated on 17 acres of meadow and timber land, with half a mile of lake frontage on Androscoggin Lake. Its front door is across the bridge over a mill stream, from the Wayne General Store and Tubbies Ice Cream. It is divinely positioned to provide space for intimate to mid-size gatherings, where guests can envision what God has in mind for them or their team, and be empowered to do it!

About the Mission

Our vision is to provide a place for servants of God—whether they be professional ministers, lay people, business people, families and anyone in between—to be empowered to build His Kingdom, just as the disciples were empowered to build the early church. As we welcome guests in with warmth, love, and hospitality, we hope guests can find rest for their weary souls. And, as guests have time to retreat and rest, we hope that they will experience God’s Spirit working in their heart and life. As guests are strengthened, we pray God will speak to them, empower them, and equip them with all that they need to follow his call in building his kingdom.

About the People

About the Coffins

Dan and Kathi Coffin live at Shepherd’s Knoll and are gifted to provide as much or as little support as individuals and teams need.

Kathi has the God-empowered gift of hospitality like no other. Having worked as a Resident Nurse (RN) for over 30 years, Kathi is uniquely gifted to provide great nourishment for body and soul. With her amazing blueberry muffins, health consultation or prayer, guests quickly feel embraced by Kathi’s nurture and care.

Dan’s life experience ranges from being a paratrooper to serving as a pastor for over 25 years. Dan has great wisdom to share, and can offer himself in one on one counseling, prayer, group facilitation and leadership, or just great conversation and connection. Dan has a true servant's heart. Dan loves to create space for retreaters to be quiet and have time alone with God.

With a rich family history in Wayne, John and Gini Frederich felt called by God to acquire the property in 2015. The initial vision was to provide—at little or no cost—a place of sanctuary and retreat; a place where people can meet with God and with each other.
